Is liquid sealant safe for tires?
Yes. X-Sauce manufactures all liquid sealants without ammonia or corrosive products.
Do I add weight to my wheel every time I refill my tire?
Keep in mind that the sealant contains water in the formulation. This water will evaporate slowly, and the weight of the wheel will decrease at the same time. The dry residue of the product is very small.
When you refill again, you will add a few more grams, but there will be less quantity of sealant liquid left over from the previous refills. It is a question of having a balanced quantity of sealant inside the wheel anytime.
How often should I refill?
You should check your wheels before every ride, in the same way you check air pressure every ride.
We recommend refilling at least every 2-3 months. Keep in mind that even if the tire does not show air leaks, the sealant inside the tire will gradually lose its sealing properties. This means that in case of a puncture, if there is a small quantity of liquid left (because it is almost dry), or if a long time has passed without refilling and sealant quality has deteriorated, then the sealant will not probably be able to seal the puncture.
At least a fresh half dose every two months guarantees you total peace of mind, long-lasting sealing, and self-repair of punctures on the trails.
However, keeping a constant eye on your tires is the best option.
Shaking your wheels (in a quiet space) you should hear the sealant splashing and moving around inside. If there is no noise, it's time to add at least a small fresh dose of sealant.
And remember that with our X-Tube you can always accurately and conveniently check the exact quantity and quality of the sealant.
How long does the sealant last inside the wheel?
Well, it depends on many factors. In a tubeless MTB tire, it should last an average of 2-3 months. But factors such as heat in summer considerably reduce the lasting time. And the cold in winter can extend it by 6 months or more.
Get into the habit of regularly checking the sealant in your tires.
Tip: Check it always a couple of days before the competition.
How much sealant should I put in my tire?
The recommended doses for MTB tubeless wheels are:
MTB 26": 60-80 ml per wheel.
MTB 27,5": 70-90 ml per wheel.
MTB 29": 80-100 ml per wheel.
Fat bike: 170-200 ml per wheel.
These recommended dose ranges should be adjusted according to the size of each tire. For the thinner tires, we can stay at the minimum dose, and for the thickest tires, it will be recommended to go to the maximum dose.
You can add more, but it will not work better and it will weigh more. Check periodically and recharge if necessary. Never let the liquid dry out completely.
Is the liquid sealant compatible with Co2 cartridges?
Yes, our sealant is fully compatible with Co2 cartridges.
What is the largest size puncture the sealant will repair?
It will depend on many factors: specific point on the tire where the puncture is located, tire wear, level of sealant inside the tire, and the number of broken tire threads,...
In our tests, holes up to 6mm have been plugged.
To reinforce the effectiveness of the sealant and to be able to repair up to 9-10 mm we recommend using SPIN BITS additive.
For the bigger punctures and holes, we also have in the catalog several tubeless tire repair kits with tire strings or plugs.
Can the MTB sealant (yellow cap bottle) be mixed with the Anti-puncture liquid for road tubeless and inner tubes (red cap bottle)?
Yes, they are compatible. But please note that although the MTB sealant (yellow cap) can be mixed with the anti-puncture liquid for tubes and road wheels (red cap), it should only be mixed for use in MTB tubeless systems. We do not recommend mixing it for use in tubes or road wheels, as it would lose effectiveness.
Can X-Sauce sealant be mixed with other brands of sealant?
No, mixing products of different brands will almost certainly spoil both products.
Can I put MTB sealant (yellow cap bottle) on tubeless/road tubulars or inner tubes?
No. MTB tubeless sealant is formulated to work on MTB tires, which work with lower pressures than road tires. Do not put it on tubes either, your wheel will be less protected than if you put the specific product for tubes (red cap bottle).
Can the sealant damage the rim?
X-Sauce sealant is manufactured with an almost neutral pH and free of corrosive products to avoid any kind of problem with tires or rims. After thousands of selling bottles throughout our history, we have encountered very few cases. Only in exceptional cases in which the liquid loses its pH balance due to some external cause or due to years of neglect, some type of corrosion may occur in aluminum rims. To avoid it, mainly inspect the area around the rim valve hole, where the aluminum is drilled and does not have its anodizing protective coating. We recommend painting that non-anodized aluminum point with enamel paint. This way that little point of aluminum without protective anodizing will be protected.
How can I control the sealant quantity inside my wheel?
You can easily and accurately control the quantity and quality of sealant inside your wheel with our X-Tube and injector accessories. With X-Tube you can remove the sealant from the inside of the tire without removing the tire. Just remove the air pressure and valve core. Then you can introduce the X-Tube through the valve and draw up sealant with the injector.
Can a sealant stain be removed from clothing if I have splashed myself?
It is very difficult. When the liquid gets in contact with textile fibers it dries fast, solidifies, and is almost impossible to remove. If possible, clean up with water as quickly as you can, before the liquid dries. If it is already dry, try to remove it little by little with some paper and an iron, the same as removing chewing gum. However, it is very difficult and probably cannot be completely removed.
How long does the sealant bottle last once open?
We recommend keeping sealant bottles closed and stored in a cool place with no light. You should be able to keep the sealant fresh for 2 years once opened, but it depends on climatic factors.
A good tip is to shake the bottle periodically, even if it was not used.
